Here's a beer that fits the fall profile that isn't from Germany! Old Speckled Hen from Morland in the UK. This beer is an incredible amber/brown styled English Bitter Ale. Now, you may think that this beer is all kinds of hoppy and tastes like an IPA based on the use of the word bitter. This is not the case with this beer. It is a smooth, roasty beer with notes of toffee and nuts. Here's what Morland has to say:
“Old Speckled Hen” was first brewed in 1979 to celebrate the 5...0th anniversary of the iconic MG factory. And what a celebration! Auburn and copper on the eye; malty, toffee notes on the nose; and then a further lovely helping of malt in the taste, with distinctive hints of caramel balanced by a touch of fruit. As English as English can be.
The secret to its success? Crystal and pale malts first and foremost, plus our Master Brewer’s blend of Challenger, Pilgrim, First Gold and Goldings hops. Especially fine with full-flavoured meats, roasts, sausages and pies.
