We’re a family of chocolate artisans. The Dietz and Ciordia families, to be exact. The Secret Chocolatier was conceived when Chef Bill Dietz found himself at a career crossroads. He called a family meeting with his wife, Karen, their daughter Robin Ciordia and her husband Andy, and we four foodies decided to take the plunge into entrepreneurship. Three years later, after building a following at local farmers markets and retailers, we responded to public demand for a storefront where customers could get their chocolate moment five days a week.

And we’re writing chocolate history every day.

Wine Tasting - Huia Vineyards (New Zealand)

Hey Everyone!

For our weekly wine tasting this day we will be featuring wines from Huia Winery out of New Zealand! Popular for their Sauvignon Blanc, this New Zealand winery is also certified Organic!

Owned by Claire and Mike Allen:

Claire and Mike arrived in Marlborough in 1990 and officially started Huia Vineyards in 1996.

Those early years were spent gaining valuable experience in wineries in Marlborough. Mike at Cloudy Bay and Vavasour whilst Claire was at Corbans and Lawson's Dry Hills. They also both worked and made wine in Champagne at Veuve Cliquot and Taittinger respectively.

This diverse, hands-on experience gave them a great grounding in making bright New World wines, but also integrated an ap...preciation of the sense of land, heritage and tradition from the Old World. When they purchased the wonderful Home block in Rapaura, it took several years to get it cleared, build the house and get the first vines planted. At the same time two gorgeous daughters arrived - Tui and Sophie - and they have played a full part in the continuing journey of Huia Vineyards...

Our lineup includes:

Huia Estate Sauvignon Blanc
Huia Blanc de Blanc Sparkling
Hunky Dory Pinot Noir
Hunky Dory "The Tangle" White Blend

Matthew James from Advintage Distributing will be in the house tasting these delicious wines so come and hang out with us! Cost of the tasting is $10 and as always receive discounts on the wines featured to take home! Cheers!

Meet The Winemaker - Teutonic Wine Company

Hey Everyone!

We have another Meet The Winemaker event on the calendar! Join us Thursday May 4th to meet the owner/winemaker from Teutonic Wine Company, Barnaby Tuttle! Located in Oregon, they focus on varietals and styles made famous in Alsace and Germany.

About Teutonic/Barnaby:
It all started in 2002 when Barnaby was the wine buyer at Papa Haydn Restaurant in Portland’s southeast location. German wine importer Ewald Moseler, showed him 14 different Rieslings from Germany’s famed Mosel wine region. Barnaby bought all 14 and started one of the largest German wine lists in Portland. That same night he told his wife, Olga that he needed to learn how to make wines that are as expressive to terroir (expressi...on of the place the grapes are grown) as these Rieslings.

Without a clue as to how to start or find investors for financial backing, we (Barnaby and Olga) started on a long journey into one of Oregon’s most difficult industries- the wine business. As our luck would have it, a friend of ours offered her fallow farm land in Alsea, Ore., to start a vineyard. So in 2005, along with a handful of good friends, we put 2000 vines into the ground, mostly Pinot Noir and some Pinot Meunier and Pinot Blanc. As we were learning how to manage the vineyard, Barnaby left his restaurant career and started as a rookie at a shared winery facility in Carlton.

We produced our first commercial vintage in 2008 which included our Estate Pinot Noir from the Alsea vineyard and Pinot Meunier made with fruit from a U-pick vineyard called Borgo Pass. From there, we increased our production by purchasing fruit from other vineyards around the Willamette Valley. We always look for colder sites, higher elevation and dry-farmed vines that are ideally 30 years or older. Today, Teutonic Wine Company produces roughly 6,000 cases of wine per year, all varieties that are typical to the Germany’s Mosel region. These include Riesling, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Chasselas, Gewürztramer, Silvaner, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier, Rosé and a variety of white blends. All the wines we make, with the exception of one blend, are single vineyard wines.

Join us from 6:30-8:00 to try some great wines!

What we are pouring:
Pinot Gris
Recorded in Doubly Muscat
Sprockets White Blend
Bergspitze Whole Cluster Pinot Noir
Bellpine Pinot Noir

Cheers!

Abeja Wine Tasting

Hello Everyone!

Join us Tuesday April 18 from 6pm-8pm for our weekly wine tasting! For this tasting we have choses wines from Abeja Winery out of Washington! $10 for the tasting and you receive 10% off any of the featured bottles to take home after the tasting!

These are fantastic small production wines, that are only available in limited quantity.

Wines Featured:

2013 Cabernet Sauvignon
2013 Merlot
2013 Chardonnay

From the Winery:
The focus of our production is Cabernet Sauvignon, as we believe this grape will increasingly be the icon varietal of Washington State. We also produce small amounts of Merlot, Chardonnay, and estate grown Viognier and Syrah. All five varietals are limited in availability.
Our wines are made from a combination of estate grapes and carefully selected vineyards whose growers share our passion for quality and the land. Traditional methods combined with innovative techniques, and a meticulous commitment to detail, define the Abeja winemaking philosophy. From the site chosen to plant the vines, and the care given them throughout the year, to harvest, and through the numerous stages of the winemaking process, there are many choices to make and each have a lasting and cumulative effect on quality.
Our small team is passionately dedicated to quality. This begins in the vineyard, and continues through every part of the process that leads to our final product. Our state-of-the-art winery is designed to handle even the smallest quantities of fruit, so that farming for flavor always takes precedence over logistics.
Our wines are made to accompany the meal. This means a balanced wine with a solid framework of tannin and acidity that is filled with pure, lush fruit richness in the midpalate, elegant integrated oak, a moderate alcohol level and a generous finish. We accomplish this through meticulous viticultural management, gentle handling of the fruit and the wine, customized practices for every lot no matter how small, and carefully selected French oak.
